Hannah turns 1

Wow how time flies. January 19 last year, Hannah Emmanuelle was born to us. It's been an amazing and wonderful year since then. With everything that happened, allow me to be a bit sentimental, and look back at the year that was.

Happy birthday, my darling

Hannah's Heart Update # 6: the missing post (PART 4)

Part 4 at last. Soooo... hmmm... where was I? O yeah...

--- --- continuation

9AM

Belle and I would alternate with praying in the Spirit or singing worship songs. We didn't know what else to do. We started getting texts from people, asking for updates of Hannah's condition. "Sorry, no word yet."

After what seemed like forever, the doors opened and Dra. Arceo came out.

"Great news. Hannah's heart's beating again!"

We were so relieved to hear those words. Dra. Arceo then began to explain that they're prepping Hannah to be brought back into the operating room to find and address the bleeding problem. We were given several forms to sign, which we immediately signed. Dra. Arceo described what needed to happen, that Dr. Nicolas was going to look for the bleeders, and that he had to close the holes.

After we signed the papers, they wheeled Hannah into the operating room. We were asked to go back to our rooms and to await an update.

"Mommy, Daddy, please keep on praying for Hannah and that we find...

Rain Rain Go Away, Right in time for our Singles Getaway

Normally, I have a nice office with a view of C5 and Market! Market! Mall. Today, however, my view is marred by rain, rain, and more rain. The fog's so think, I can barely see the buildings that are being constructed in Fort Bonifacio. I know our city needs the rain (we're running out of water supply and all that) but the weather's so gloomy, i can barely focus on work (hence the reason why I find myself blogging).
The other reason I can't focus on my work is because I'm so excited for our upcoming Singles Getaway!
If you haven't signed up for this yet, i really encourage you to do so. Even if you're not from the Fort. We need to know as soon as possible though so we can plan out the buses and rooms properly.

Now join me in praying a quick prayer that the rain would stop so we would have good weather on Sept 7-9.

More about the Singles Getaway soon!

*Here's a picture of the pool where we're staying.
Gearing up for more Grace
I'm so excited for our current series that's running in most of our Victory Metro Manila churches, entitled "Grace Works". If you missed last Sunday, don't fret. You can listen to it here.

Pastor LA hit a home run at the Fort's 5 and 7PM services with his message on GRACE OR NO GRACE. See his thoughts on this here and here. And I'm tackling this Sunday's topic on Saving Grace.
Ephesians 2:8 and 9 says "for it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast."

I used to feel like I didn't need saving. Honestly. (Kapal, i know.) In my opinion of myself at the time, I was not perfect, but definitely a lot better off than others. I used to think, "There's hardly anything in my life that needs fixing. Good grades, didn't really rebel, went with the right crowd. God should spend His time on the ones who really needed help. I'm fine."
You see, I would picture the things I did this way... with a bala...

Hannah's Heart Update # 6: the missing post (PART 3)

Part 3, a lot later than I promised. Sorry, got super busy with EN.07. What a blast! If you weren't there, or just want to relive the event by looking at pics and listening to the messages again, go here.

Anyway... here's part 3. And I had to cut it again. May part 4 pa pala. Dr. Nicolas began...

"Mr and Mrs Antonio, I'm sorry but we won't be able to close Hannah's chest cavity tonight as we previously planned. Sorry about that. Hannah's has bleeding in several areas, and until we find them and close them, we won't be able to move forward. In the meantime, I would like to encourage you to prepare a few more blood donors. I'm anticipating that...

Hannah's Heart Update # 6: the missing post (PART 2)

Hi! ok... here's part 2. Again, it's quite long. It's not going to be the last part k. There I warned you. I'm trying to be detailed really more for my sake, so years later I don't forget just how good God has been to us.

Anyway... where was I? Oh, yes. I remember now...
--- --- back to my story...

8:30PM
The phone rang. I jumped from my seat and practically pounced on the phone. Belle was also standing. The room fell silent... "Hello?"
It was the nurse. He said she was still in the operating room and that this was regarding some medical equipment that I need to pay for only.

Whew... akala namin kung ano na.
Hannah's Heart Update # 6: the missing post (PART 1)

I'm finally back to posting on Multiply. Thank you to my sister Janelle for posting my texts on my site and on her site while we were in the hospital. I just couldn't get myself to an internet cafe to write about what we were going through at the time. Anyway...
It's been over 2 months since we got discharged from PGH and got to bring Hannah home. We're so happy to be home. And to have Hannah home, safe and sound, with us. Again, our undying gratitude to everyone who supported us, encouraged us, visited us, and most especially kept us (and still keep us) in prayer throughout our ordeal. Your prayers accomplished so much.
I often get asked what happened during our time in the hospital and how Hannah's doing now. In this post, I'll try to recount the major points of everything we went through, from my perspective. I'll end with how Hannah's doing now, 2 months after her operation.

This is going to be a really long post soooo... I'm taking a friend's advice and will chop it up into ...

now being transfered to a private room! Her oxygen tube is off, she can
now sustain acceptable oxygen levels on her own. Also most recent xray
shows improvement in her left lung. She still has lung fluids and blood
infection but doctors are confident in her current condition and very
pleased with her progress. We'll need to stay 1 more week in the
hospital to complete Hannah's meds then we'll be able to bring Hannah

April 24 Update on Hannah

From Carlos:

"Thank
you for keeping Hannah in prayer. Only 3 tubes remain attached for her
oxygen, feeding , fluids and meds. She had a CT scan and an EEG
yesterday. Initial reading - no trace of a stroke. An MRI will be done
a few months post recovery to be sure. Her left lung is still
collapsed, there's fluid build-up, and her oxygen levels go down fast
if her 2 tube moved but even with this she's breathing on her own!
Doctors will keep her in the ICU to closely monitor her progress.
Please do pray for her collapsed lung to work properly, for thee fluid
build-up to stop, and for no other complications to occur. Thanks!"

Carlos and Belle were told that they were going to take Hannah by 1pm so they could make the necessary preparations for the operation, which was scheduled to take place by 2. She needed 2 more blood donors. by 10 am, there were 7 people at the hospital ready to give blood. (Thank you so much for such an immediate response.)

The operation takes at least 5 hours or more. By 8pm we received word that the operation had been successful. Here's Carlos & Belle's' message:

"The first part of the operation is done, they've repositioned the arteries already. They're now working on patching the hole in Hannah's heart. The crucial part of the operation comes after that, when they remove the heart from the machines. Please continue to prayfor grace for the ...

Hannah's Heart: Update #5

Unfortunately, the soonest possible schedule available is April 13 (a Friday).

Yes, that's Friday the 13th. As my doctor and I were laughing about, "good thing we're not the superstitious type."

That is, however, over a week from now. And cutting it a bit close to the rough deadline that was set for Hannah's operation. (All the doctors we talked to, not just the ones we currently have, all advised us to have her operation before Hannah hits 3 months - which technically is on April 19.)

God's timing however, we believe to be absolutely perfect. Never early, never late. Always on time. So we have exactly 10 more days to try to get Hannah's weight up, lower her bilirubin levels a bit more, and keep her from infections of any kind.

And more than enough time to see a miracle happen.
We're going for a check-up with our pedia-cardio doctor again today. Not sure what tests he'll give Hannah. We basic...

Hannah's Heart: Update #4

We got a blood test last Friday to see if Hannah's bilirubin levels were still high. (As i mentioned in our last update, Hannah's operation was temporarily cancelled because of this complication.) Saturday, we went to the doctor to evaluate the results and...

The doctor gave a go-signal to reschedule the operation!

Her bilirubin levels are actually still higher than what's normal, but it's within the safe range. The doctor was satisfied with the levels she saw.

Thank you so much for everyone praying for Hannah. Our doctors are now trying to get the earliest possible schedule for us. Based on initial inquiries, the earliest will be sometime after Holy Week, so we still have 1 week to pray for a creative miracle and get Hannah to gain a bit more weight.

(this picture was taken when we were still in PGH.
Hannah's Heart: Update #3 (the long overdue blog)

Just posted this now, as you can see. Sorry, kinda took a break from everything after being in the hospital. And we finally discovered how to connect to the internet in my mom's place.

Here's a quick overview of what happened in the last few days, and what's happening now.

On March 20, last Tuesday, we were admitted into PGH. The doctors needed Hannah there early so they can do a series of tests and prep her for the surgery. Hannah kept smiling at everyone who entered the room. Even the nurses and residents found her so adorable. One doctor, while drawing blood from Hannah for the nth time, commented, "bait naman ng batang ito, umiiyak na dahil sa injection, di pa din ginalaw ang kamay."

Anyway, Wednesday, March 21, we went for Hannah's 2D Echo, xray, ECG tests. Only one of us could go, so Belle went with Hannah. (Nurses prefer the mother since babies tend to cry throughout the procedures.) Belle said that Hannah only cried during the 2D Echo because they placed cold cream on her skin w...

We haven't gotten the info you need, particularly the time of the operation, what we'll be doing today and tomorrow (the days before the actual surgery on Thursday), and how long we'll be in the hospital.
We did, however find a really good website that explains what the operation will be like, and what we're preparing for in the coming days. For those of you who want a more detailed understanding of Hannah's operation, the risks involved, and a general idea of the activities lined up for us in the next few days, please visit the site here.

Hopefully there's Starbucks or a wifi spot in or near PGH so i can keep posting updates.
Thank you again for your continued prayers, support, and encouragement.

Here are some cute pictures of Hannah making faces to put a smile on your face as you pray with us for her heali...

Hannah’s Heart: UPDATE #1

(warning… this blog’s a bit long. Sorry in advance.)

First of all, thank you very much to everyone who has been praying for us. We have never experienced God’s peace and presence as clearly and as closely as we have these past few weeks. And the scriptures, testimonies and prayers we’ve received have been very encouraging and helpful.

Thank you also to everyone who gave of his or her time, energy, and resources. The referrals, food, and gifts have been a huge help. Thank you for being God’s channel of blessing to us. For being there for us and with us. For being family.

In my last post I wrote about how we were trying to get this Japanese doctor. We found out that he won't be coming to the Philippines anytime soon. Which actually was quite ok for us because we got to meet the doctors that Belle and I both felt very comfortable with and have thus decided to have them be the ones to do Hannah's operation in the event that she needs one (we're all still believing for a creative miracle fro...

Introducing... HANNAH EMMANUELLE H. ANTONIO

Ok. Finally got to post this. Hehe sorry for the delay.

Erratum... Hannah was born on January 19, not the 17th as originally announced. The operating room wasn't available so we re-scheduled to the 19th instead.

Hannah was born at 8:55 AM, January 19. She's a big girl, 8 lbs, 20.5 inches. She looks like her mommy (thank God for that!) and has my feet (we think...). Her hair's very thick for a newborn.

The nurse who brought her to us when we finally got her roomed in said she was the biggest baby in the nursery. From the viewing room it was easy to spot her, i just looked for the biggest baby there.

Thanks to everyone who prayed for Belle and Hannah. They're both doing well.

Special thanks to our OB GYN, Dr. Dana. You're the best. Doc!

Hannah Emmanuelle means "favored" and "God with us" respectively. Truly, Belle and I are experiencing God's continuing favor and grace in our family.

The other day it hit us. Belle said "Love, we have kids!. Not a kid. Kids! Children. Plural.
